]]>Dad’s love their cars, and washing a car has evolved into a specialised male ritual. So, help Dad do the best for his car and let him in on the secret of essential oils for cleaning his car while being eco-conscious at the same time.
Essential oils have not only proven their environmentally-friendly value and versatility for spring cleaning your home, but they are also the ideal solution for cleaning a car.
Everyone is in love with essential oil room and linen sprays, so what about an essential oil car spray? Not only will Dad get the satisfaction of natures’ gentle fragrance in his car neutralizing any other odors, but he will also benefit from the calming and relaxing therapeutic benefits that are inherent in organic essential oils.
The majority of car air fresheners comprise synthetic and harmful chemicals as part of their ingredients. A simple natural and non-toxic essential oil car freshener spray can easily be made at home.
For Dad, the more spicy, earthy essential oils are best. In a small glass or plastic spray 4oz bottle, add distilled water, 2T vodka (the odorless and alcohol properties make it the ideal sanitiser for killing germs and for helping the essential oil scent to linger for longer) and 24 drops of essential oil of choice or 8 drops each of a blend of 3 essential oils. (Dad will love the masculine combination of Sweet Orange, Cedarwood and Clove Bud essential oils). But experiment with Patchouli and Cypress - it is the easiest way of bringing the rugged freshness of the outdoors into the car.
And if Dad spends a lot of time in the car, then combining Tea Tree, Oregano and Cinnamon oils in a car spray - with their antiviral and antibacterial properties - will also help to boost his immune system.
Dad’s car needs a regular wash to keep it looking great. Essential oils are the perfect products to clean any car.
If you want cleaning products that are sustainable, the principle is that if you cannot pronounce the ingredients on the label, then don’t use that product. The same goes for cleaning your car. That is what makes organic essential oils so user-friendly.
Have fun with the following DIY essential oil car cleaning recipes to spoil Dad.
For any interior car surface that needs to shine (including leather), mix 1 cup of Fractionated Coconut carrier oil with 5 drops of Sweet Orange or Grapefruit PInk oil. Simply spray and wipe the surfaces.

To get your feet looking and feeling as pretty as can be, keep a few essential oils on hand for a soothing post-winter pedicure.
Winter is notorious for dry and chapped skin and now that spring has arrived, your cracked heels have nowhere to hide! Let essential oils come to your feet’s rescue.
Organic Patchouli oil, with its antifungal and wound-healing properties, can help eliminate cracked heels. Organic Cinnamon oil, containing various phenols, will help heal painful heel fissures and prevent infection.
Blend a few drops of patchouli and/or cinnamon oil with a carrier oil before rubbing onto the affected areas or add to a natural foot soak. Argan carrier oil is rich in vitamins A and E which are known to boost cellular regeneration and it can be applied directly to extra dry and cracked heels.
One of the best ways to ensure smooth skin is by exfoliation. Walking barefoot on the beach every day is is the ideal solution as the sand is a natural exfoliator, but an essential oil foot scrub is your next best option to help remove that dead layer of skin on your feet.
It is so simple to make your own foot scrub and your best trio of exfoliating essential oils is Lavender, Tea Tree and Peppermint. (Peppermint oil is also good for improving circulation).
Add 5 drops of each of these three essential oils, plus 1T Olive oil and 1T Coconut oil, to 1 cup of sea salt and mix together. Massage the scrub onto your feet. Leave it on for 10–15 minutes and just relax. (Mother’s day is coming up and this foot scrub will make a wonderful gift for Mom).
The antioxidant properties and vitamin E in Olive oil make it a super moisturizer, and the antimicrobial properties of Coconut oil offer soothing and healing benefits. Lavender oil’s versatility is renowned, but its antifungal and antiseptic properties are known to help with many skin issues. Besides the many superpowers of Tea Tree and Peppermint oil, they both also help eliminate foot odors.
Speaking of which…
Lavender essential oil helps kill odorous bacteria, so add a few drops to a carrier oil and rub onto your feet at night and sleep in socks. Otherwise, make a refreshing foot spray by adding 10 drops of lavender oil to 4oz of water in a spray bottle. Spray on your feet and in your shoes. The effect will be almost as relaxing and rejuvenating as actually walking barefoot in a lavender field!
Many essential oils have antifungal or antimicrobial properties which means they can help fight the growth of certain pathogens. So, when it comes to athletes foot or toenail fungal infections - essential oils have become a popular alternative remedy.
Oregano is a powerful antifungal and antimicrobial essential oil and is often used to help get rid of foot fungus and infections. Citronella and Lemongrass also have antifungal benefits. (Lemongrass also revitalizes tired feet). Take advantage of Patchouli oil’s powerful antifungal properties for athletes’ foot.
For the best results, blend a few of the above essential oils (2-3 drops of each) with 20 drops of a carrier oil such as coconut oil. Use a clean or sterile cotton gauze pad and dab onto the affected area 3x per day.
There are many types of fungi and if a fungal infection persists beyond a week with no improvement or if it starts to spread, make sure you consult your doctor.
This spring, your feet deserve to look the part in strappy sandals, espadrille wedges or flip flops. And thanks to Sanctus Essence, they can. Confidently going barefoot is as simple as going online and stocking up on a few multi-purpose organic essential oils for your feet. A home pedicure has never been so easy.
Your feet deserve the best, and that is exactly what you will get when you shop our essential oils and carrier oils. All our oils are 100% nature-derived, ensuring that each oil retains its specific beneficial chemical compounds.
“Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring? - Neltje Blanchan
If words cannot describe the very breath of spring, essential oils can. As nature's pure droplets, they are the perfect alternative to your annual spring cleaning ritual. When it comes to household cleaning products, organic essential oils and a couple of basic pantry staples are all you need to beckon spring indoors and create a hygienic home.
If you are not yet a convert to linen sprays, then now is the time for these mists of happiness to become your new laundry BFF. An organic essential oil linen spray is a wonderful household product to cleanse and freshen bedding, towels and soft furnishings in your home and protect your family from germs and bed bugs.
The benefit of using an organic essential oil linen spray, with its anti-allergen properties, reduces potential irritants to your skin for allergy sufferers as well as being naturally derived and biodegradable. This is an important consideration for any household cleaning products.
Make your own DIY organic essential oils refreshing wellness linen sprays:
The basic recipe: In a 4oz glass spray bottle, combine distilled water, 2T vodka (the odorless and alcohol properties make it the ideal sanitiser for killing germs and for helping the essential oil scent to linger for longer) and 6-10 drops of essential oils. Spray lightly onto linen and allow 15 minutes to air-dry. Store in a cool dark place. (This can also double up as a room spray or a toilet freshener spray that will neutralize airborne odors and they make wonderful eco-friendly gifts).
Become a ‘perfumer’ and make your own mix-and-match therapeutic blend:
Instead of store-bought cleaning products and detergents that contain ammonia and/or phthalates, embrace the eco-friendliness of organic essential oils to freshen up kitchens and bathrooms.
Dirty surfaces? The natural antimicrobial, antifungal. antiviral and anti-allergenic properties of organic essential oils make them a natural alternative for sanitizing household surfaces, killing germs and leaving your surfaces sparkly clean and fresh. Add a total of 30 drops of essential oils to 1 ¾ cups distilled water and ¼ cup white vinegar in a spray bottle and happy hygienic spraying! Your household surfaces and your family will thank you.
Microwave looking a bit grimy? Add 5 drops of Sweet orange or Pink Grapefruit oil to a cup of water in a glass container and heat for 2 to 3 minutes on high. Keep the door closed and let it stand for a further 5 minutes. The grease-cutting and antimicrobial essential oil steam will loosen the built-up grease and dirt. Just wipe down for a sparkling, sweet-smelling microwave.
Smelly fridge? Baking soda and organic essential oils come to the rescue. Add 8-10 drops of your favorite essential oil to a small bowl of baking soda and let it get to work neutralizing odors and refreshing your spaces.
Musty closets? Spring cleaning would not be spring cleaning without you decluttering your closets. Dark corners of cupboards can often get mouldy and musty. Banish any stale smells by spraying a mixture of 1 ½ cups of water with 8 drops each of Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and Sweet Orange/Grapefruit oil into the cupboards before repacking.

As nature takes its amazing course in your changing body, certain pregnancy-safe essential oils are a pure and gentle solution to your antenatal care
We have highlighted some pregnancy-safe essential oils that are powerful in helping to relieve pregnancy-related nausea, stretch marks, unbalanced moods, muscle aches, haemorrhoids and insomnia.
Please note: Essential oils are directly distilled from plants so they contain highly concentrated compounds. It is always advisable to first consult your doctor or certified midwife before using any aromatherapy oils and experts also advise that you only use pregnancy essential oils in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, Never ingest the oils - only diffuse or use topically by diluting in a carrier oil. ((If you are concerned, our recent blog highlighted the essential oils you should probably avoid during your pregnancy.)
Morning sickness and nausea - to varying degrees - are par for the course during pregnancy and organic essential oils come to the rescue. Lavender is a staple pregnancy essential oil - in fact, if you are only going to invest in one organic essential oil during your pregnancy, then Lavender is that one.
Ginger has long been celebrated for relieving nausea and so this essential oil is definitely a pregnancy favorite. Cardamom, from the same spice family as Ginger but with its own unique aroma and beneficial properties, will also help to relieve nausea. Then there is the refreshing and citrusy scent of Sweet Orange oil. Last but not least, is Spearmint oil. Peppermint tea is popular for relieving nausea and so organic Spearmint essential oil is a milder and gentler alternative offering soothing comfort and relief when used as an antenatal aromatherapy oil.
As your sense of smell is heightened during pregnancy, decide which of these oils will offer you the soothing support you need.
These pregnancy essential oils, when diffused or diluted in a carrier oil of choice and applied to pressure points are any mom-to be’s go-to holistic alternative to relieve nausea symptoms.
Any mom-to-be is likely to suffer from restlessness at night and insomnia due to discomfort as her baby grows and her muscles start to strain. Any of the following oils are pregnancy-safe and will assist with sleep support:
Diffuse any of these oils for 30 minutes before going to bed, or add a maximum of 12 drops to 2T distilled water in a spray bottle and spray a scented mist onto your sheets or pillow before bedtime.
There is no denying that hormones take on an unexplained and unscheduled life of their own during pregnancy - often resulting in worry, anxiety, heightened emotions and mild antenatal blues. The calming essence of pure essential oils is just the natural ‘antidepressant’ to restore a sense of harmony and balance. Pregnancy can also zap your energy, making you feel lethargic. The best emotional support pregnancy essential oils are:
Stretch marks and breakouts are unavoidable in most expectant moms. But organic essential oils such as Frankincense, Grapefruit, Helichrysum or Tea Tree, diluted in a moisturizer or carrier oil will help to nourish your skin, sort out blemishes and improve your skin’s elasticity.
Mix 2-3 drops in your favourite carrier oil and apply to the affected area morning and evening.
To soothe muscle aches during pregnancy, 12 drops of either Lavender, Ylang-Ylang, Ginger, Roman Chamomile, Frankincense (or a blend) added to 2T of a carrier oil of choice and massaged into the muscles will ease the aches and help with overall pregnancy relaxation and calm.
A lesser spoken of, but very real issue during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy (and labour), is the uncomfortable and painful onset of haemorrhoids. Tea Tree, Cypress, Geranium Rose and Lavender are your go-to oils to help relieve the discomfort and swelling. Try blending all 4 essential oils together (total of 8 drops) and mix with 2T of aloe vera gel. Apply directly with a cotton ball or tissue.
Sanctus Essence is your online essential oils support for aromatherapy advice during your pregnancy. Our oils are sustainably and ethically sourced and are 100% organic - providing you with pure droplets from nature that retain their specific beneficial chemical compounds.
Take some time and browse our blog page where you will discover the numerous benefits of aromatherapy essential oils and how they can positively impact your life.
Relaxing essential oil baths, stress-relieving aromatherapy massage oils and essential oils for relieving nausea and insomnia are a wonderful solution to everyday pregnancy ailments.
“Essential oils are natural remedies with very few side effects,” says Lakeisha W. Richardson, MD, an ob-gyn at Delta Regional Hospital in Greenville, Mississippi. “More and more patients are trying to use alternative ways to handle illnesses due to the large side-effect profile of most medications.”
But not all oils are considered equally safe for pregnant women, and so should be used responsibly to avoid any potential adverse effects for mom and baby.
We have highlighted the most common oils to avoid during pregnancy.
Certain organic essential oils are considered to be dermal irritants and are best avoided during pregnancy: Cinnamon bark oil, Clove bud oil, Citronella. Lemongrass and Lemon verbena, Peppermint, Oregano and Thyme.
Even though the research is vague and inconclusive, this is the most common reason cited for avoiding certain essential oils during pregnancy as certain oils contain estragole, a chemical compound that could increase the risk of a miscarriage or preterm labour as a result of bringing on uterine contractions.
Essential oils in this category include Basil, Clary sage, Fennel, Jasmine, Laurel and Myrrh.
Organic essential oils such as Cinnamon bark, Rosemary and Thyme are considered to be emmenagogues which means they can stimulate and increase blood flow. In very rare cases this could result in a miscarriage or in excess bleeding during the delivery. Rosemary essential oil may also increase blood pressure.
Organic Cinnamon bark essential oil contains safrole, a compound that may lead to kidney or liver issues in the developing fetus and Wintergreen essential oil contains methyl silicate which could affect the normal growth of the fetus. Lemongrass contains citral and myrcene, two compounds that have been associated with birth defects.
“A common myth in aromatherapy is that massage oils containing essential oils such as Clary sage, Rose or even Rosemary can cause a miscarriage and hence should be avoided throughout pregnancy." Authors such as Ron Guba, Kurt Schnaubelt, and Chrissie Wildwood have all pointed out that “there have been no recorded cases of miscarriage or birth defect resulting from aromatherapy massage using therapeutic applications of any essential oil.”
For more information of research on the use of essential oils in pregnant women, read this article.
Even though it is evident that there is a lack of clear information and research regarding the toxicity of certain essential oils during pregnancy, it is best to be cautious and rather avoid these oils during your pregnancy.
At Sanctus Essence, we always advise that before you use any essential oil during pregnancy, it is best to first consult with your doctor or certified midwife.
And even though we recently introduced you to your 3 new positivity BFF’s - Jasmine, Rosemary and Clary Sage - they are 3 essential oils that are best avoided for a mom-to-be.
Woody oils - distilled from the bark, leaves, branches and resin of trees - all offer an emotionally calming effect as they transport us outdoors into nature and lift our spirits. The woody family of essential oils blend well with oils from the citrus, spicy or floral families.
“The trees will tell their secrets to those who tune in” - Steven Magee
So, tune into our curated list of three tree oils and find rest and renewal for your weary spirit.
The crisp freshness of Black Spruce oil will immediately surround you with the nostalgia that the forest produces. It is the oil of harmony. Distilled from the needles and branches, this powerful oil, with its energizing aroma will boost you when you are feeling a bit flat. High in the chemical, bornyl acetate, it is known to promote relaxation and calm.
The anti-inflammatory and soothing properties of Black Spruce make it the perfect massage oil - just dilute a few drops in just dilute a few drops in Fractionated Coconut carrier oil and and massage into sore muscles or apply to the back of your neck to improve your sense of harmony. To just breathe easier - diffuse 3-4 drops in any diffuser.
If you want to experience complete forest harmony, mix 5 drops to ¼ cup Epsom salts and add to your bath. (You are likely to hear the woodland music of animals scurrying about and birds chirping!).
In contrast to Black Spruce, Cedarwood Atlas oil’s warm and spicy balsamic aroma is grounding and balancing. Steam-distilled from the wood chippings of the tree, this oil is known to have a variety of benefits - from repelling insects to treating skin imperfections.
As Cedarwood oil helps to promote emotional balance, it is best diffused at the end of a long day to calm the mind and the body and assist in a good night’s sleep. And if your child wakes with bad dreams, rub diluted cedarwood oil onto the bottom of their feet to help calm their nighttime fears.
After a good night’s sleep, Cedarwood Atlas oil will boost your energy before exercising. Diluted in a carrier oil of choice, rub onto your chest before your workout.
For glowing, youthful-looking skin, add 1 or 2 drops to your moisturizer.
Of all the tree oils, Cedarwood’s chemical properties make it the most popular for repelling insects. Dilute a few drops in Fractionated Coconut oil and rub it on to your skin. (Perfect for campouts in the forest).
Organic Sandalwood essential oil comes from the bark of the tree and its classic sweet and woody scent makes it popular in perfumes, soaps and cosmetics. For centuries it has been used for meditation and helping to alleviate anxiety and insomnia. It is a tree oil that is both grounding and uplifting when used aromatically in a diffuser, helping to balance your emotions and assist in mental clarity.
Used topically by diluting with a carrier oil to promote healthy smooth looking skin. And for a forest home spa facial, add few drops to a bowl with hot water, cover your head with a towel and let the steam do its magic - nourishing and rejuvenating your skin.
The antiseptic properties of Sandalwood make it perfect for wound healing; dilute in a carrier oil and apply to the affected area. Its anti-inflammatory benefits also make it a relaxing massage oil.
After a long day, create a tranquil atmosphere by adding a couple of drops of Sandalwood oil to your bath and soak life’s stresses away and then diffuse the oil next to your bed for sweet dreams and a night of restful sleep.
“Anywhere which is in a forest, that’s my zen place.” -Ravenna Tandon
At Sanctus Essence we are mindful of the fragility of and wonder of nature. Our tree organic essential oils are simply the purest droplets of the forest whispering their secrets as you embrace their healing essence.
Our belief is that you don’t mess with nature and we are committed to 100% pure, nature-derived oils that are ethically sourced, cruelty-free, non-GMO and contain no pesticides, insecticides or additives.
Black Spruce, Cedarwood Atlas and Sandalwood are just three of our wellness tree oils, but we could have included the secrets of Tea Tree, Cypress, Frankincense, Myrrh and Balsam Copaiba essential oils in our forest collection.
For centuries, flowers and plants have conveyed symbolic meanings. Essential oils - which are the pure droplets and essence of nature - will take that romantic intent and symbolism to another level.
The allure of floral fragrances becomes a powerful and lasting medium for a touch of romance and the stirring of calm, relaxing and positive feelings - that is why it is called ‘aromatherapy,’ and that is why essential oils are the perfect Valentine’s Day gift and a novel way of saying “I love you.” (A message that will last way beyond the day)
You may not be able to afford a romantic trip to Provence to spoil your loved one, but you can bring the lavender fields of Provence home in a little bottle bursting with the scent of purple prettiness. The colour purple has always represented dignity, admiration and feminine beauty, making organic Lavender essential oil an appropriate Valentine's Day gift. What better way to show your admiration than in the secret messaging of this oil?
One of the most versatile oils, Lavender oil helps to promote a sense of relaxation and calm. And if you are planning a romantic outdoor picnic under the stars, it becomes a wonderful insect repellant. (Just dilute a few drops in a carrier oil and rub onto your skin).
Technically not a flower, but a herb, Rosemary makes our list of romantic essential oils. Native to the dry, rocky areas around the Mediterranean, especially along the coast, it means “dew of the sea” and you cannot get more poetic or romantic imagery than that. The symbolism of Rosemary is remembrance, as the leaves, when pricked, hold their scent for a long time.
A tiny bottle of uplifting organic Rosemary essential oil will evoke the magic of the azure ocean. So if you want to stir up wonderful memories of love, Rosemary oil will send that message. (It will also become one your BFF positivity oils)
Helichrysum gets its name from the Greek and Latin “helios” (sun) and “chryso” (gold). With its bright yellow papery flower heads, it belongs to the daisy family and is also called “Immortelle” or the everlasting flower as it was believed that the flower heads would last for seven years when kept in the house.
So, if you want to declare your everlasting feelings of love this Valentine’s Day, then organic Helichrysum essential oil is the perfect gift of “liquid gold” that embodies resilient love that will overcome and persevere. When diffused, Its herby and earthy aroma will banish any feelings of sluggishness. Helichrysum has a myriad of uses, especially for the skin, but concentrated in a carrier oil, it is popular as a relaxing and energising massage oil - need we say more?
Jasmine and Patchouli are two flowers that will send strong and sultry messages when bottled. These are the yin and the yang of aromatherapy: Jasmine, with its exotic floral scent, is the more feminine oil and Patchouli, with its musky scent, has a stronger masculine character.
Organic Jasmine extract’s captivating and sensual properties are said to encourage feelings of romance, euphoria, joy and splendor as well as being calming, relaxing and boosting self-confidence. We think this oil is an obvious Valentine’s Day choice for the lady in your life.
In the 1800s, organic Patchouli essential oil was used to scent shawls and fabrics in India. (Ancient rumors bestow magical properties on its and it is often used in incense for meditation). Patchouli oil is also known as a fragrance of action, symbolising that nothing happens until we take the first steps to make it happen. This bold, earthy fragrance is just the right gift for the man in your life.
With Ylang Ylang essential oil, we’ve kept the best floral oil for last, simply because this flower has the most beautiful and romantic story associated with it.
According to legend, two peasants who were unable to have children turned to a local shaman. He assured them that the gods would grant them a child on one condition - that the child born should never be touched by a lover. The girl who was born was blessed with a rare beauty. One day, a young man saw her walking and fell hopelessly in love with her. But when he approached her to hand her a bouquet of flowers and declare his love, he accidentally touched her hand and at that moment she turned into a beautifully exotic tree with the most sensually fragrant flowers.
In Indonesia, Ylang Ylang flowers are believed to have aphrodisiac properties and are sprinkled on the bed of a newlywed couple. The sweet and soft floral fragrance of organic Ylang Ylang essential oil also symbolizes wishes for good health, happiness and positive emotions. In fact, its romantic appeal was first recognised as a superior note for Chanel No.5 in 1921. (But a bottle of Ylang Ylang essential oil will cost you considerably less).
At Sanctus Essence, we've got your back this Valentine’s Day. As you decide which flower essential oil is the ideal gift and perfect way to say “I love you,” we have a special gift for you - 20% discount across all our essential oils. (Use the code ORGANIC20 at checkout)
And if you want a romantic oil blend that says it all, then our Steamy essential oil blend - containing Lavender, Sandalwood, Ylang Yang, Patchouli and Sweet orange - is the love potion for a romantic evening. Who needs Cupid when you can add a few drops of this blend to a diffuser?
Don’t delay, you still have enough time to order online and have your oils of choice delivered to your door, in time for Valentine’s day.
"Winter blues are cured every time with a potato gratin paired with a roast chicken." -Alexandra Guarnaschelli
We completely agree with Alexandra Guarnaschelli’s mouthwatering comfort food solution, but we also believe that organic essential oils are a wonderful and natural alternative to curing the winter blues. (After all, it’s probably not advisable to eat potato gratin and roast chicken every day!)
Congestion, stuffy noses and mild respiratory issues are common winter ailments in adults and children. Organic peppermint essential oil is definitely a winter ‘essential’ for clearing the respiratory system and nasal passages.
Peppermint oil comes from the leaves of the peppermint plant, and for centuries it has been used for digestive relief, boosting the immune system and helping fight the common cold. One of its many compounds is menthol (C10H20O), which gives it such a refreshing quality. Apply directly to the skin diluted in a carrier oil or add to a diffuser and inhale to breathe easier. We recommend storing your peppermint oil in a cool dark place for freshness and longevity.
Its gentler sidekick, Spearmint oil, is the child-safe version for relieving congestion symptoms relating to colds and flu and to ease digestive and tummy aches in little ones. Dilute in a carrier oil and rub on the chest, abdomen or under the feet.
Organic Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil is also an excellent winter alternative oil for helping relieve respiratory conditions. Eucalyptus trees have long been known for their medicinal qualities and are used to relieve coughing and help loosen mucus on your chest. Eucalyptus oil is safe for children over 10 at a recommended 1% dilution with a carrier oil and a 2% dilution for adults. You can also add a few drops to boiling water and inhale the steam for a few minutes.
From kids to adults, dry cracked skin and cold sores are a winter pain. Organic Helichrysum Splendidum essential oil (we just love saying it) is a child-friendly oil and a favourite for countering dry and flaky winter skin by increasing the skin’s hydration. It is also a great oil for brightening up dull skin that is looking tired and weathered from exposure to cold air or pollution. It comes from the Helichrysum plant which is also known as the immortal or everlasting flower. Just add a few drops to your moisturizing cream or to organic fractionated coconut carrier oil. Its soothing components are also popular as an aftershave.
(Speaking of shaving, we have an entire blog dedicated to guys and beards).
The anti-inflammatory properties of Eucalyptus Globulus oil are also known to reduce the pain and help to speed up the healing of cold sores. Dilute in a carrier oil and apply directly to the cold sore.
Your skin might not only be dry but also red and inflamed, thanks to the icy winter wind. In this case, Geranium Rose essential oil is a skin saver and positively glows with its own unique benefits. It can help calm skin irritations and inflammation with its soothing and moisturizing qualities and it will help to balance out your winter skin.
Our blog, The Geranium Rose Garden of Essential Oils highlights this delightful floral oil and its myriad of benefits, and just reading it will help to further banish any winter blues.
Sitting in front of your crackling fire cuddled in a cosy blanket as the snow slowly blankets the earth is the perfect opportunity to pop in online at Sanctus Essence.
We are committed to creating a positive and pleasant experience for you as you browse and shop all our organic essential oils, carrier oils and oil blends.
All our oils are 100% pure and unrefined and are sustainably and ethically sourced in ideal growing conditions.
A positive mindset and a happy outlook are known to boost overall wellbeing and impact our general health. We realise that life is not free of problems, but it is how we deal with them that matters.
So why not surround yourself with the energy and essence of organic essential oils - nature’s pure positivity droplets?
The aromatic compounds trigger a response in the limbic system of the brain, helping to balance your moods and restore a sense of serenity and joy.
Rosemary’s name comes from the Latin meaning ‘dew of the sea.’ (You see, you are already feeling happier). 😊 When steam distilled into an organic essential oil, the chemical makeup of 'Rosemary officianalis' (1,8 Cineole and alpha-pinene) offers therapeutic and renewing properties that can be energizing, uplifting and calming - especially when diffused. And if a long day has you feeling tired and overwhelmed, a few relaxing drops in your bath will soothe body and soul.
We all know that when you are having a good hair day, you immediately feel more positive and confident. Organic Rosemary oil is known to promote healthy-looking hair. Give it a try by adding few drops to a carrier oil and massaging into your scalp.
The rejuvenating scent of Rosemary essential oil also makes it a firm favorite for massaging into tired muscles. Dilute a few drops with a carrier oil of choice.
The name 'Jasmine' is Persian and means ‘Gift from God,’ which is appropriate for an essential oil derived from flowers. Organic Jasmine extract comes from the white flowers of the Jasmine plant.
Research has indicated that Jasmine extract offers antidepressant properties - relieving mild symptoms of depression and improving moods. The best way to benefit from the romantic and sweet fragrance of Jasmine oil is through an aromatherapy massage, inhaling it directly or adding to a diffuser. To uplift your mood and start your day with a positive outlook, dilute a few drops in a carrier oil and rub into the bottom of your feet and your pulse points in the morning.
The calming scent of Jasmine essential oil may also improve symptoms such as insomnia, palpitations and irritability.
Jasmine extract does tend to be quite pricey. This is because the delicate petals cannot be distilled like other flowers, and so the highly concentrated absolute is made from thousands of freshly picked petals to produce a 5 ml bottle of Jasmine extract. But then again, you cannot put a price on happiness and positivity.
Clary is an Irish variant of Claire and means ‘bright.’ No wonder Clary Sage is a BFF positivity essential oil! The flowers and leaves are steam distilled and it’s soothing, herby and floral fragrance helps to create a calming and balancing atmosphere when emotions are heightened - making it one of the most relaxing oils.
Clary Sage contains linalool and linalyl acetate which are said to improve moods and promote calm. And this oil really steps up as a BFF oil during menstruation. Diluted in a carrier oil and massaged onto the abdomen or added to a bath will help relieve PMS and any other tension.
When it comes to organic essential oils, Sanctus Essence is also your BFF, offering you nature’s healing touch and therapeutic effects in tiny bottles of pure positivity and happiness.
We consult with qualified and certified Aromatherapists to ensure that the information accompanying all our products is honest and accurate. As a business, we are committed to premium quality, reliability and competitive pricing.
It would therefore be remiss of us to not take advantage of the festive season and highlight the wonder of these ‘Christmassy’ organic essential oils which have health and wellness benefits all year round. We think they should make it into everyone’s Christmas stocking.
We are aware that gold is not an aromatherapy oil (if only it were), but as nature’s pure droplets, organic essential oils rank up there with one of the world’s most precious metals. As a concentrated version of the oils found in plants and trees, organic essential oils are a natural antidote to a chemically enhanced world of supplements, offering you the holistic healing properties encased in these little droplets of balance and harmony.
Read our blog on the reasons we consider them nature’s poetry and powerhouse. It will be easy to see why we refer to organic essential oils as liquid gold. So in our eyes, any organic essential oil is worth its weight in gold and is ‘wise’ choice as a gift.
With its intense golden hue, you will be forgiven for thinking that Frankincense is actual liquid gold. Organic Frankincense essential oil is appropriately called the ‘King of essential oils’ and is distilled from the resin of the Boswellia tree varieties found in the mountainous regions of the Middle East, North Africa and India. The woody, spice smell can be inhaled, used topically by adding to a carrier oil such as Jojoba or Almond, or taken internally by steeping 1 or 2 drops in tea or adding to a Veggie capsule.
Frankincense oil comes in four varieties and contains Terpenes and Boswellia acids which are known to have the following anti-inflammatory effects and benefits:
Did you know? The ancient Egyptians used Frankincense as part of their embalming process, and the resin was also charred and ground into a powder to make the heavy kohl eyeliner Egyptian women wore.
(All four varieties of Organic Frankincense essential oils are safe for children).
Records from ancient times have shown that Myrrh was so valuable, it was valued at its weight in gold. Organic Myrrh essential oil comes from leaking resin of the thorny Commiphora tree when its bark is cut. Once the resin has dried and hardened, it is scraped off the bark in tear-shaped droplets and then steamed to produce the essential oil.
The reputed antimicrobial benefits of this versatile reddish-brown foresty and earthy oil are numerous:
Did you know? The ancient Egyptians used Myrrh oil as a rejuvenating facial treatment and according to Alain Touwaide, a historian of medicine at the Smithsonian Institute, “Myrrh appears with more frequency than any other plant substance in the writings of the Greek physician Hippocrates, who revolutionized the field of medicine in the fourth and third centuries B.C.”
(Organic Myrrh essential oil is not safe for children, pregnant or nursing women).

“Her freckles looked as if someone had blown cinnamon across her nose and high cheekbones.” -Jo Ann Brown
Highly versatile, organic Cinnamon bark essential oil (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) is known to have a variety of health benefits. It contains the compound ‘cinnamaldehyde’, which may help reduce inflammation and act as an antimicrobial. It is also said to stimulate circulation, reduce stress and relieve pain.
Dilute drops of this warming and comforting essential oil in a carrier oil and add to your bath, or rub onto your skin, or use in a diffuser to combat any seasonal shopping exhaustion.
Christmassy tip: Add a few drops to pine cone decorations to bring the outdoors in.
(Please note - Cinnamon bark essential oil is not safe for kids or for women who are pregnant or nursing).
“The mother of all spices is cardamom.” -Aaj Ka Gyaan
Cardamom essential oil blends well with citrus oils (try sweet orange for a quintessential Christmassy scent) and is safe for kids over 10 years. It has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid and ingest to aid with digestion or add to a diffuser for mental clarity.
Add 1 drop each of Cardamom and Palo Santo oils to a shower gel base for an invigorating and amazing-smelling shower experience.
His voice was cloves and nightingales, it took us to spice markets in the Celebs, we drifted with him on a houseboat beyond the Coral Sea. We were like cobras following a reed flute.’ -Janet Fitch
Christmas is not Christmas without cloves - stuck in oranges, added to baked hams, sprinkled in cookies, and now added your collection of organic essential oils.
Organic Clove bud oil (Syzygium aromaticum) is reputed to be excellent for relieving toothache or jaw pain. It contains ‘eugenol,’ which is a natural anaesthetic for temporary pain relief. (Add two to three drops to a neutral carrier oil, such as olive oil or canola oil, and rub onto the affected area using a cotton ball or swab). Within 5 -10 minutes you should feel the numbness set in. Reapply every 2-3 hours as needed.
When inhaled, Clove bud oil has also been known to relieve respiratory conditions such as coughs and asthma. (Avoid giving undiluted clove oil to children).
"I thought maybe we could make gingerbread houses, and eat cookie dough and go ice skating and maybe even hold hands." -Buddy the Elf
Nicknamed the ‘oil of empowerment,’ ginger essential oil (Zingiber officinale) is an energizing oil with a wonderfully intense aroma. Diluted in a carrier oil, it may enhance concentration and reduce feelings of stress, sadness, anxiety, lethargy, agitation, dizziness, and fatigue. Used medicinally, it aids digestion and reduces inflammation. (Organic Ginger essential oil is not safe for kids).
“The spicy tingle that prickles at the nose is from the alkaloid piperine that's present in abundance in black pepper!” -Yuto Tsukuda
Not a traditional Christmas spice and not very well known, we thought we’d add this one as a twist to our list. Black Pepper essential oil (Piper nigrum) is said to reduce minor pain in muscles and joints. As an antispasmodic, it may help to support the digestive system by helping with bloating, spasms or cramps - helpful at this time of the year.
Organic Black Pepper essential oil is also known as an anti-arthritic and anti-rheumatic and it may also help with mental fatigue or depression. For tired feet, add 1 drop each of organic Black Pepper and Patchouli oils to a thick foot cream and rub into feet. Slip into some woollen socks and snuggle up in front of a crackling fire.
For fresh-smelling bedding, create your own linen spray: In a spray bottle, mix 7-8 drops each of Black Pepper, Nutmeg and Sweet Orange oils with 1 cup of water. Shake and spritz. (Black pepper oil is safe for kids).
If you are looking to spice up your Christmas gifts this year, then Sanctus Essence is stepping in as one of Santa’s helpers. Our individual organic essential and carrier oils make wonderful stocking fillers and hostess gifts.
But to make life really easy this holiday season, you could just head to our Gift Box Collection and spoil family and friends (or even yourself). As it is Christmas, our spiced gift boxes are a perfect choice to spread some aromatherapy love this season.
(Quite simply, they’re essential!) 😉
Let’s start with the humble carrot. Carrot seed essential oil differs from carrot oil, which is a carrier oil made from the crushed roots. Organic Carrot seed essential oil is cold-pressed and distilled from the seeds of the flowering plant, duacus carota sativa, also known as the wild carrot or Queen Anne’s Lace - the name alone makes one fall in love with this little known essential oil and its versatile antioxidant properties.
Although organic carrot seed essential oil does not generally feature on the A-list of aromatherapy celebrity oils, added to a carrier oil, the skin benefits of this oil are numerous, and should definitely feature in your daily skincare regime.
Dry and sensitive skin? Irritated skin? Because it is rich in antioxidants, carrot seed oil will help repair the damage from free radicals (oxidants) and rejuvenate your skin, reduce dark spots wrinkles, ease acne and hydrate your skin.
Heading into the sun? Full of Vitamin A and carotene, add few drops of carrot seed oil to your sunscreen. If you do get sunburnt, add a few drops to your aloe vera gel.
A little frazzled? Used in a diffuser, the sweet and earthy aroma of carrot seed essential oil will transport you back to your childhood veggie patch - relieving stress and anxiety and bringing a sense of calm.
Tense muscles? Add carrot seed oil to a carrier oil of choice and massage into sore, aching muscles.
Avocados aren’t everyone’s favourite, but organic avocado carrier oil can be. Pressed from the pulp of an avocado, it is packed full of oleic acid - a healthy monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid - beneficial for helping to reduce cholesterol, lowering blood pressure and improving heart health.
The fatty acids and Vitamins A, D and E in avocado oil also aid in moisturizing the skin, soothing skin irritations and helping with wound healing. After showering or bathing, massage a good amount of avocado carrier oil into your skin, or add a few drops to one of your everyday body lotions and potions.
When it comes to organic citrus essential oils, we’re talking sweet orange, lime and green mandarin - the trio of zingy and tangy aromatherapy magic.
Need to just breathe? There is nothing more calming and relaxing than diffusing the wonderfully uplifting and happy scent of organic Sweet Orange essential oil. It can help support the immune system, aid digestion and reduce nausea. And if you're struggling to sleep, sweet orange oil comes to the rescue. Add a few drops to a carrier oil and massage into your skin to feel rejuvenated.
Feeling blue? The zesty, refreshing fragrance of organic Lime essential oil can be very uplifting and help to overcome depression and anxiety issues. Also known for its purifying properties, Lime oil can be ingested for internal cleansing and boosting the immune system. Add 1 or 2 drops to your water bottle. You can also add a couple of drops to your face wash or shampoo to benefit from its cleansing properties.
Need to smile? Pressed from the unripened fruit of the mandarin tree, the chemical Limonene, in organic Green Mandarin essential oil, is known for its surface cleansing properties. Dilute 10 drops in a spray bottle of water. Its fruity and floral undertones also make it a favourite for diffusing to create a happy, positive and energising environment.
If you love natural face oils or serums, then Grapeseed carrier oil will be your new favourite beauty treatment - especially for teenagers who tend to struggle with acne-prone skin. Cold-pressed from the seeds of wine grapes, Grapeseed oil contains linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that helps control acne by decreasing clogged pores. It is a great carrier partner oil for Tea Tree essential oil, which is known for its potential acne-fighting properties. Grapeseed oil is also a skin balancer, especially for skin that tends to be oily, as it helps to slow down oil production.
It is also said to tame frizzy hair (just add a few drops to water in a spray bottle and spritz), and relieve sore muscles (just massage directly into the skin).
Organic Fractionated Coconut oil is another popular carrier oil. It is fractionated from regular coconut oil, removing most or all of the fatty acids. It is a light emollient with a high protein content which is easily absorbed into the skin, leaving it soft, smooth and nourished without it feeling greasy. (It is one of the best oils for sensitive skins).
When it comes to blending organic essential oils, Fractionated Coconut oil is odorless and colorless, making it the perfect choice. (The formula is 1:5 - 1 part organic essential oil to 5 parts fractionated coconut carrier oil.)
For new moms - make up a blend of 3 drops Carrot seed oil, 2 drops Frankincense essential oil and 10 ml coconut oil to help fade stretch marks.
For the guys - rub a few drops of Fractionated Coconut oil into your skin before shaving as it creates a smooth surface for your razor. But if you are into beards - then we have an entire blog dedicated to you.
At Sanctus Essence, we love and respect nature’s healing oil droplets and are committed to harnessing the balancing benefits from the earth. All our organic essential and carrier oils are pesticide-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free, additives-free and vegan-friendly as well as being USDA organic and verified. So go ahead and stock up on your ‘5-a day!’
We start our travels in South America with the essential oil, ‘Petitgrain,’ native to Paraguay. This oil comes from the bitter orange tree which produces three oils: Petitgrain, Neroli and Bitter Orange. Organic Petitgrain oil is distilled from the twigs and leaves, Neroli from the blossoms, and Bitter Orange from the rind of the fruit. Often living in the shadow of Neroli, Petitgrain (@ $5.95/10ml) has been nicknamed the ‘poor man’s neroli,’ as it costs about 25x less than Neroli (@ $150.95/10ml), but is still packed full of similar benefits.
If you suffer from insomnia or restless sleep patterns, place a few drops of Petitgrain oil on your pillow before bedtime; the uplifting floral, woody notes and citrus undertones will promote restful sleep and reduce feelings of anxiety. Diffused, Petitgrain blends beautifully with Bergamot or Lavender essential oils to promote calm and relaxation.
A few drops of organic Petitgrain essential oil, mixed with Fractionated Coconut carrier oil, does double duty: for foot massages or used as part of your skincare regimen to help with blemishes and imperfections.
Next, we head to the Pacific Ocean and the island of New Caledonia to introduce you to ‘Niaouli’ (aka the Paper Bark tree), a favorite among aromatherapy fans. Organic Niaouli essential oil is a cousin to Tea Tree oil, and its strong, pungent smell and antiseptic properties are said to boost the immune system.
As an astringent, its cleansing properties help to reduce acne and redness, tone and tighten the skin, calm sunburn, stimulate cell growth and reverse scar tissue.
For respiratory conditions, Niaouli oil has proven beneficial in relieving congestion and reducing excess phlegm. (No wonder it is called a miracle oil).
Niaouli may not be the best smelling of oils, but it makes up for that with its myriad of therapeutic benefits. (For a pleasing aroma, blend with Eucalyptus, Bergamot or Lavender essential oils).
Remaining in Polynesia, ‘Tamanu’ oil is not an essential oil but a carrier oil from the tropical evergreen Tamanu nut tree. It is rich in fatty acids and is referred to as ‘green gold’ and ‘beauty leaf oil.' Tamanu oil’s skin benefits are numerous: for treating scars, wound healing, skin regeneration, anti-ageing, diminishing stretch marks and reducing age spots. (Caution: anyone with a nut allergy should avoid this oil).
‘You are welcome in Nepal,’ home to the rosy fragranced and herbaceous grassy oil - ‘Palmarosa’ (aka Indian Geranium), similar to lemongrass. In ancient civilizations, Palmarosa oil was used to lower fevers and prevent infection, but today it is more popular in cosmetics to balance the skin’s oil production, and when diffused, it is said to ease tension and balance emotions.
Organic Palmarosa essential oil can be diffused (it blends really with Pink Grapefruit, Ylang Ylang, Lime or Rosemary oils), added to your bath water or applied topically. As a massage oil, add 6-12 drops to 1oz Argan carrier oil.
Making our way west, we arrive in Madagascar to discover ‘Ravintsara’ oil - a staple organic essential oil in any family’s first-aid kit. In Malagasy, ‘ravina’ means leaf and ‘tsara’ means good, so, loosely translated, the oil comes from ‘the tree with good leaves’ or ‘the leaf good for everything.’ Organic Ravintsara’s spicy and warm fragrance is slightly milder than eucalyptus.
As an immuno-support oil, it is reputed to having strong antiviral and antibacterial properties. To use topically, dilute a few drops in a vegetable carrier oil and rub onto the chest.
(Caution: Ravintsara should not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy, in breastfeeding mothers or on children under 4 years of age).
At Sanctus Essence, we have sourced organic essential oils from around the world. We believe that the life of an essential oil is directly proportional to the purity of its source and so we leave no stone unturned in ensuring that our suppliers meet ironclad quality standards. All our organic oils are sourced from certified organic growers and distillers and we openly disclose ingredients and third-party lab results. Each of our products meets the USDA’s standards.
Shock and fear can affect even the bravest of hearts. A surprise scare, a skeleton jumping out of the closet, haunted house sounds and a rubber spider landing on a child’s head can cause legitimate shock and an adrenalin surge of panic.
To calm frightened little ones, spritz or diffuse away their fears with child-friendly essential oils. Organic German Chamomile oil’s calming scent has earned it the nickname, ‘kid calmer,’ and its deep blue colour is enough of a Halloween ‘magic potion’ to allay any fears and settle all nerves. Added to a diffuser or to bathwater, or diluted in a carrier oil and gently massaged onto tummies, it will soon have kids cool, calm and collected.
The comforting warm and herby scent of diffused organic Sweet Marjoram essential oil is child-safe and known to have a positive effect on the nervous system and soothe anxiety and scary thoughts.
The clock has struck twelve and hyped-up kiddies are struggling to fall asleep after their trick-or-treating adventures, or they are waking up with post-Halloween nightmares and bad dreams. Getting little ones to sleep after such excitement requires either a fairy godmother or… the ‘magic wand’ calming and soothing effects of kid-friendly essential oils!
Our favorite ‘lullaby’ essentials oils for children are:
We can do nothing about the amount of candy your little trick-or-treaters scoff, but we can help with the post-Halloween candy tummy aches. Nausea and sore tummies are the likely sugar hangover symptoms
Spearmint oil is a wonderful child-friendly essential oil from the same family as peppermint. When diluted in a carrier oil, and applied to the abdomen, it can help relieve a queasy stomach and bloating.
Keeping it sweet:
Sweet Orange oil not only helps in ridding nightmare monsters, it also helps in aiding digestion and alleviating nausea, and Sweet Marjoram essential oil also does double duty; calming anxiety and helping with digestion.
Diffuse any of these oils or dilute in a carrier oil and massage on the tummy in a clockwise direction around the belly button. Then cover with a warm cloth to help drive the oils in.
“The world turned upside down - in a good way - for one black velvet night” -Karen Fortunati
At Sanctus Essence - after the fun of trick-or-treating - we are here to help turn the world back upright for your little ones with our ‘magic potions’ - aka organic essential oils - to banish scary monsters from under the bed, calm frightened nerves, invite sweet dreams and settle sore tummies.

We have taken our inspiration from the colors of Fall and translated those into our ‘arboretum’ of aromatic Fall essential oils selection to cozy up your life and help you slow down...just a little.
Our suggested list of natural and earthy inspired essential oils is perfect for a sensory Fall experience - reminiscent of a relaxing walk in the forest. The calming presence of trees and crunching leaves underfoot has a way of recentering our minds and balancing our emotions.
Organic Cypress essential oil is made from the twigs, stems, and leaves of the Cypress tree (Cupressus sempervirens), and its many and varied health benefits come from its alleged antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal and antispasmodic properties. It is a wonderful child-friendly Fall essential oil staple.
Struggling with a niggly cough? Cypress oil contains camphene, a molecule which is often found in herbal cough suppressants. Add a few drops to a diffuser and inhale for some natural relief. Added to a carrier oil, cypress oil is said to soothe haemorrhoids, control warts and treat cuts and wounds. Massage the diluted oil onto areas where you experience muscle soreness. Combined with Lavender and Sweet Marjoram, Cypress essential oil may also help to reduce anxiety.
The warm and woodsy aroma of Cedarwood Atlas essential oil (Cedrus atlantica) is said to soothe and invigorate the body and mind, just like a walk in the forest. This comforting oil is steam distilled from the wood of the tree. Used in carrier oil applications and safe for children, it is also known to repel insects, stimulate hair growth and encourage a good night’s sleep. Combine 12 drops of Cedarwood oil with 1 oz of Coconut or Grapeseed carrier oil and add to your bath to indulge and soften your skin.
Another Fall family-friendly favorite essential oil is organic Frankincense Frereana (Boswellia frereana), which is hydro distilled from the gum/resin of the tree. It has an enticing woody-pine scent with a hint of lemon and honey. Diffused, or diluted in a carrier oil, it is known to help with uplifting moods, relaxation and centering, as well as for soothing aching muscles and joints.
Organic Spruce Black oil is a powerful oil distilled from the needles of the Black Spruce tree (Picea mariana). It is high in bornyl acetate, a chemical component known for promoting relaxation and calmness. Diffuse Spruce Black oil or apply to the back of your neck to create feelings of harmony, balance and serenity - transporting you to a walk in the forest.

If you are a guy, including pure essential oils into your daily routine is a simple alternative as well as being gentle on the skin. Many guys are starting to realise the beneficial value of naturally devised products when it comes to beard growth and general beard grooming. Beards are definitely in - all styles, shapes and sizes - from Goatees, Royale and Van Dyke beards to 3-day stubble, Gunslinger and Hipster beards. Whatever type you are boasting, there are essential oils for guys that will help with beard growth and beard care.

Forget craft beers, you can now craft your own signature beard oil from the range of essential oils that have an earthy ‘masculine’ scent.
We’re talking the woodsy and sultry aromas of Sandalwood, Cedarwood and Tea tree which will all help to combat any itchiness, dryness and dandruff. In fact, add them to your shampoo or conditioner for the same benefits for dry scalp.
(And if your chiselled chin prefers to go beardless, then these essential oils are just as perfect as an aftershave or cologne spritz).
Favorite carrier essential oils for guys are Jojoba oil and Coconut fractionated oil. Go ahead and experiment by mixing 2oz of carrier oil with 8-10 drops of your essential oil of choice. These beard oil combinations work better when shaken, not stirred. 😉
A little known medical fact is that there are more sweat glands in your feet than anywhere else on your body. When bacteria break down the sweat, the result is foul-smelling boots and sneakers. Stinky footwear tends to be more of guy problem, but specific essential oils come to the rescue, treating shoe odor naturally.
The best essential oil odor-eliminators for guys are spicy Bergamot and exotic Frankincense frereana as they lift and remove the smell from the shoes. Just add a couple of drops to the inside of your shoe - neat - and let dry before wearing. (But any of the citrus essential oils will work just as well. Feel to apply to gym bags as well).
The incessant stresses and pressures of the daily working grind and hustle have many guys fantasizing about man caves.
The diffused essence and scents of essential oils for guys have the power of transforming any space into a relaxing ‘man cave.’
Inhaling the diffused masculine and grounding fragrances of Bergamot and Clary Sage essential oils will help fight modern-day stresses and anxieties, inviting the outdoors in and restoring peace and harmony. Bergamot is uplifting and energetic and can help with anger and frustration, while Clary Sage is well noted for balancing and calming emotions. Instead of that mid-afternoon coffee pick-me-up, the musky, spicy scent of Patchouli will take the place of a power nap and re-energize and awaken your focus.
Sitting at a desk for a large part of the say can cause tired muscles. The benefits of the exotic citrus scent of Frankincense oil, diluted in a carrier oil, works wonders when rubbed into sore joints and it is also known to boost the immune system.
These recommended essential oils for guys are a much cheaper alternative than the cost of renovating your house to include a man cave!
The team at Sanctus Essence believe in harnessing the pure and natural power of nature. We believe that the life of an essential oil is directly proportional to the purity of its source and so we ensure that our suppliers meet ironclad quality standards. All our organic essential oil products are sourced from certified organic growers and distillers.
Essential oils for guys are part of our extensive range of organic oils - so whether you are looking to escape to your ‘man cave,’ need to get rid of unpleasant shoe odors or want to care for or promote the growth of your beard, then our Sanctus Essence organic oils and carrier oil collections will have you sorted.
Interacting with nature and its organic shapes is one of the easiest ways to reduce mental fatigue, encourage positivity and invite a sense of calm into your home. Indoor plants have also been linked to increased concentration and productivity. Pure organic essential oils become the perfect partner to boost the life-enhancing value of your indoor plants.
They share the same plant ancestry and should be the obvious choice when it comes to looking after your plants and adding some green joy and life to your home.
Elementary School Science informs us that indoor plants are good for your health as they purify the air. Plants release oxygen into the air and absorb carbon dioxide - thereby freshening the air and eliminating harmful toxins. That makes the mantra of ‘just breathe’ a whole lot easier.
So, by introducing a variety of indoor plants into your work and home spaces, you will naturally be boosting your mood and reducing stress.
Pure essential oils simply become a natural partner in keeping these plants healthy and thriving. It is vital we find ways to be grounded in our age of heightened technological complexity, and healthy indoor plants provide us with a daily reminder of the simplicity of life, outside our fast-paced existence.
Let’s talk some aromatherapy options for your indoor plants:
Indoor plants can be plagued by pesky bugs as much as outdoor plants - the most common being aphids, flies, and beetles. A 16oz spray bottle of distilled water and 10 drops each of rosemary, clove, peppermint and sweet orange organic essential oils, sprayed directly onto your indoor plants, will repel these little plant destroyers. Organic cinnamon bark essential oil is an option for cockroaches, silverfish and dust mites.
(Helpful Tip: Indoor plants get minerals from the soil, so only use distilled water and not mineral water with essential oils for indoor plants as they don't need the added minerals).
A combination of 10 drops each of organic lemongrass, rose geranium and frankincense frereana essential oils added to a 16oz spray bottle of distilled water and sprayed around the base and roost of indoor plants seems to encourage healthy growth and foliage. Diffusing these oils close to the plants seems to have a similar effect.
To keep the leaves of indoor plants looking gorgeous with a natural shine, add a few drops of organic grapefruit pink oil to a mixture of non-toxic liquid dish detergent and water. Dip a soft cloth into the solution and gently clean both the top and bottom of the leaves. Make sure you thoroughly rinse the leaves of all soap.
If you are new to the world of aromatherapy, then using essential oils for indoor plants is a wonderful introduction to the benefits of nature’s droplets. For your plants to grow, flourish and infuse your home with life and botanical greenery, Sanctus Essence is your indoor gardening assistant. All our essential oils are USDA organic and are sourced from certified organic growers and distillers.
Organic essential oils are a pure and wonderful resource, playing a two-fold role in keeping your garden blooming, blossoming and growing, as well as protecting your garden from unwanted bugs and plant destroyers. When it comes to garden insects, there are some beneficial bugs that you want to lure into in your garden, and then there are the bad guys that are not welcome.
Organic essential oils simply take the principle of companion planting to the next level.
Let’s first talk battle strategy: if you want your garden to grow, there are many pesky insects that you need to get rid of and repel - those little blighters that have the potential to destroy crops, herbs, flowers and trees. We’re talking varieties of ants, aphids, snails, beetles, cutworms etc. Organic essential oil solutions hold the pesticide power to naturally repel these unwelcome creepy crawlies without causing harm like their toxic counterparts.
(To make up a solution, the general guideline is 10-20 drops of essential oil to 1 gallon / 3.7 litres of water).
Use your arsenal of essential oil spray bottles and get ready to wage war:
There is no denying that the natural efficacy and pure potency of organic essential oils make them an invaluable tool in your garden shed.
(Unearth more about the value and benefits of organic oils)
Now for the good bugs which are generally divided into two groups - the predators and the pollinators. These are nature’s friends that help your garden grow organically. Organic essential oils become a secret weapon in attracting these lovelies into your garden and ensuring they stay.
The predators are beneficial bugs for keeping your garden balanced and free of pests. Spiders eat more insects than birds, and ladybugs are relentless when it comes to eating aphids and beetles set on destroying your plants.
The pollinators are the buzzing and fluttering miracles of nature that make your garden bloom and produce: bees, butterflies, lacewings and hawkmoths - just to name a few.
If you are looking for a bumper crop of fruits and veggies, or a floral world of color, then the following organic essential oils are the perfect invitation for pollinators:
Gardener’s tips:
Dilute 2-4 drops of essential oil to 8oz of water (250ml) or add a few drops of essential oil to a piece of cheesecloth tied to a twig and placed at the base of the plants or tied to branches of fruit trees. Essential oils soaked cotton balls placed in individual cardboard egg container ‘cups’ and planted in the soil next to each plant is another simple way to attract pollinators.
If you are convinced of the principles of organic gardening and farming and the benefits of essential oils in increasing your garden’s health, beauty and abundance, then Sanctus Essence is your natural companion on this journey.
Diffusing organic essential oils to supplement your child’s healthy lifestyle choices, and support their daily routines, will go a long way to aiding their performance at school and their overall wellbeing.
At Sanctus Essence we are here to make your life a little easier with a range of organic essential oils and blends that are convenient and perfect for ‘back-to-school’ days.
One of the best advantages any child, tween or teen can have is a good night’s sleep. Starting the day right begins before they even wake up. The hours of sleep are when the body repackages its neurotransmitters - the chemicals that enable brain cells to communicate. A child is dependent on this to stay mentally alert and focused throughout the school day.
Our cozy and comforting blend is ideal for children, gently calming minds and bodies after a demanding day. This bedtime bottle of ‘sleeping beauty’ essential oils will invite sweet dreams, all night long.
It contains the following relaxing combination of organic essential oils:
(We love Rose Geranium essential oil and wrote an entire blog on its magical floral properties)
There are many distractions that cause children to lose focus - during school hours and after school when homework beckons. Essential oils can be a secret weapon in assisting with focus, concentration and mental alertness so that kids don’t ‘zone out’ or start daydreaming.
Organic essential oils can offer some natural bottled ‘brainpower.’ Just add a few drops to a diffuser to help sharpen those brain cells.
Try any of the following kid-friendly organic essential oils for some ‘brain-boosting’ power:
The world is full of potential stress factors that can cause chronic anxiety in children and teens. Aromatherapy candles, infused with pure and organic essential oils, can have a positive impact on our minds and bodies. As you inhale the gentle fragrance of the natural plant scents, which are released into your surroundings as essential oil candles burn, you experience the holistic, soothing and therapeutic effects essential oils are known for.
The science behind the sense of smell is incredibly powerful. Scents are first processed in the olfactory bulb in your nose and then head to the amygdala and hippocampus - two areas of your brain that are strongly linked to emotion and memory. By inhaling a scent, emotions are triggered, connecting you to a time or sensation. Essential oil candles become a wonderfully scented tool for managing emotions and creating a sense of calm.
Essential oil candles - made from soy wax and pure oil - contain no additives or stabilizers and are the perfect way to transform your space and your mood, impacting how we process daily challenges and stressful circumstances.
There are many online tutorials and instructive videos on how to make essential oil candles which you can browse at your leisure.

Exercise and essential oils both have the ability to transform your mood and your body. With their powers combined, you will be breaking new grounds!
Whatever your preferred fitness style – be that cycling and experiencing the power of speed, or running and feeling the natural resistance of your body against the earth, or taking full advantage of your indoor gym package, you can add some extra love to your heart-pumping cardio. Dilute some organic sweet orange oil with a carrier oil (recommended 1-3% dilution) and dab on your wrists or temples (or dilute into the spray bottle that you take to the gym), and get a boost of energy and good mood vibes from its uplifting freshness! Whether you are exercising indoors or outdoors, these bright, citrus essential oils will give you a breath of clear, open air.
If you’re feeling sluggish, Lemongrass oil helps you fight fatigue (as well as those outdoor summer insects!) – awakening your senses to seize the day and your exercise routine. Peppermint oil’s fresh and uplifting scent, while also sweet and calming, is great for those exercises that require balance and resistance, softness and strength, yin and yang. Yes, all you yoga and pilates people, this one could be for you! It also helps with nausea (especially if cardio is a new thing for you!) and opens the respiratory system to help you keep breathing! You can do this!
Before and after any exercise routine, it is essential to give your muscles and joints some TLC. This is as beneficial as the exercise itself! Add essential oils to your pre- and post-workout sessions and get the best relief and preparation you need, right from nature’s health shop.
Organic lavender oil and oregano oil are both qualified healers for muscle spasms and joint tightness. Combine them with a carrier oil and give yourself a soothing and relaxing massage, or put a few drops onto your yoga mat for your pre-workout warm-ups. After a good workout, put a few drops of calming marjoram oil in your bath before you head to bed (it provides beautiful sleep therapy!).
Essential oils are ideal for your recovery days. Make the most of these rest days – they are as important to your well-being as heavy fitness! If you want to do a little bit of meditation or deep breathing exercises to assist in bringing your mind and body into a state of calm, add a few drops of Frankincense oil into a diffuser or on a pillow, and experience balancing and grounding you need. The spicy aroma of this essential oil will add depth, meaning, and the opportunity for reflection.
Further options include Neroli oil, which can add mindfulness and clarity, as well as peace and love to your day, while sandalwood oil can help balance the emotions (especially those that may arise from a day of reflection!). Put a few drops of these essential oils in a diffuser to add an ambience of calming balance to your space. Otherwise, for more targeted rest, combine these oils with a carrier oil and give yourself a hand and foot massage. Reflexology is always a good idea!

If you are new to the world of essential oils, you may want to add our blog about nature’s holistic story to your summer reading list. If you are already part of the essential oils fan club, you are probably itching to read about which bottles of summer magic you should add to your shopping list to make up your seasonal essentials oils kit.
As you all spend hours outdoors soaking up the summer sun, harsh UV rays cannot be avoided, and no matter how vigilant you may be in preventing sun damage, you could end up with your skin red and sunburnt.
Prevention is always better than cure, and Carrot Seed oil, distilled from the wild carrot plant, is a secret summer weapon. By adding 2-3 drops to your sunscreen, this herbaceous oil is your BFF essential oil for that little extra sun protection factor.
But if you do head out without a hat, or forget to apply sunscreen, immediate treatment is imperative to reduce the inflammation of sunburnt skin and prevent further damage. The anti-inflammatory properties of Roman Chamomile essential oil are the best ‘medicine’ for soothing painful sunburnt skin. Dilute 1-2 drops in a carrier oil and gently massage onto the skin or add 4-5 drops to 1 cup of Epsom salts for a calming bath. Roman chamomile is a go-to oil for a little TLC.
If you are wanting your skin to boast a healthy summer glow, then Grapefruit Pink oil needs to be part of your skincare range. As a DIY home spa product, combine a few drops in a salt body scrub to promote smooth glowing skin. Cold-pressed from the peels of the grapefruit, this essential oil’s invigorating scent is perfect for inviting summer fun on holiday with you.
Insect bites and stings are an annoying side-effect of the season. The sounds of bees buzzin’ may be synonymous with summer, but being stung by a bee produces an uncomfortable and painful local reaction that might include swelling and redness. In most cases, bee stings can be treated at home, and essential oils are a natural alternative remedy for welcome relief from the stinging pain.
Rosemary oil (with its natural astringent properties) and Tea Tree oil (known to have remarkable effects on irritated skin by helping to ease redness and reduce inflammation) are two of the most popular essential oils to have on standby for treating bee stings. Mix 1 drop of the oil with 4-5 drops of a neutral carrier oil, and apply directly to the affected area.
The biggest summer irritation, however, belongs to the ubiquitous mosquito. But essential oils are summer’s heroes for bug bites, targeting inflammation and itchiness, and taking the misery out of mozzy bites.
The cool and calming effects of Peppermint oil can reduce the temptation to scratch itchy bites, thus preventing infection. Lavender oil may help speed up the healing time and reduce the itching of a mosquito bite, as well as relieving pain from bites and stings caused by fire ants and bees.
Let’s talk mosquito repellants. Citronella oil and Eucalyptus oil are the two superheroes. They can be very effective when used in candles, diffusers, or by mixing 1 part oil with 10 parts organic sunflower carrier oil. Cinnamon Bark oil works wonderfully as a mosquito repellant when diluted in water and sprayed onto your skin and clothes, or as a room spray.

The best way to transform your home into a field of springtime wonder is through a diffuser - allowing you to breathe in the fresh spring air as the floral scents of essential oils energise your space and calm your soul.
For many, however, spring heralds in a season of sniffles, sneezes and itchy eyes. As pollens and grasses trigger symptoms in the nose, throat, lungs, ears and sinuses, essential oils can be used as an alternative or complementary treatment for unwelcome hayfever and spring allergies.
Here are our favourite essential oils to help relieve springtime allergy symptoms:
Before starting on any natural treatment - despite the irritation of seasonal allergies - it is always advisable to consult your doctor or medical practitioner. If you struggle with chronic allergies or are sensitive to chemicals, essential oils could trigger even more allergic reactions, so always proceed with caution.
No matter the season, when considering essential oils as an alternative treatment, only use as directed, and make sure you’re using quality organic oils. Concentrated essentials oils should always be diluted with a carrier oil and never applied directly to your skin - and they should never be ingested.

Please note: Essential oils should not be taken orally, and they are not intended to treat, cure, or prevent any disease. It is always advisable that you consult your family health practitioner as essential oils are not a substitute for professional medical care.
However, essential oils have a lot to offer from Earth’s health store:
Essentials oils have long been recognised as an organic player in strengthening your body’s natural defences - helping to fight off harmful pathogens and disease-causing organisms. Simply put, essential oils become an additional weapon in your germ-fighting arsenal.
COVID -19 might be the great enemy today, but our bodies will always be in a battle against viruses and bacteria, so finding ways to boost your immune system should be part of your and your family’s daily health regime.
When it comes to your overall health, essential oils - with their antimicrobial properties - are a proactive (and wonderfully scented!) supplement.
‘Essential oils have great potential in the field of biomedicine. The presence of different types of aldehydes, phenolics, terpenes, and other antimicrobial compounds means that the essential oils are effective against a diverse range of pathogens.’
Organic essential oils - also known as volatile oils - are concentrated natural extracts derived from plants, which have proven to be a source of bioactive compounds with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
The nurturing practice of looking to nature for its healing and medicinal properties is as old as humankind. Essential oils are a simple way of unlocking the amazing properties that plants contain.
3 practical ways of bringing essential oils into your home to fight germs and assist in strengthening your immune system:
1. Diffuse - Essential oil diffusers disperse oils into the air to be inhaled. Besides their pleasant scent, essential oils may also play a role in purifying the air from airborne germs. The exhilarating fragrances produced by these essential oil diffusers are a natural way to restore calmness to body and soul. The versatility of Lavender oil is a go-to for its immune-boosting properties. Not only does it help you get a good night’s sleep - encouraging restorative rest that your body needs - but it is also commonly used for reducing stress. Stress and lack of sleep are a potent duo in compromising immune systems. Oregano oil - with its antiviral properties - has long been hailed for aiding a robust immune system and speeding up recovery.
2. Disinfect - Added to home cleaning products, surface sprays and hand sanitizers, essential oils enhance the antibacterial and disinfectant properties and provide a little added protection. Sweet Orange oil and Tea Tree oil - with their natural antiseptic properties - are both commonly used in homemade cleaners and room sprays. By minimizing exposure to harmful particles on household surfaces, the immune system is not further compromised.
3. Dilute - Known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties, Eucalyptus Globulus oil is essential for building the immune system. Besides helping to treat respiratory conditions, it is a powerful ally when fighting off colds and flu. To maximize its healing potential, mix 3 drops of Eucalyptus oil with 2.5ml of any carrier oil and rub directly onto your chest and feet. Frankincense oil helps the body produce more white cells - the body’s frontline soldiers - to aid in the combating of harmful pathogens.
At Sanctus Essence we believe we are part of nature and nature is part of us. We are also armed and ready with nature’s essential oils to help you fight germs and strengthen your immune system.
Our little bottle of Germ Warrior oil - an organic blend of Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Lemon, Rosemary officinalis, and Eucalyptus globules - packs a powerful immune-boosting punch.

Essential oils are the liquid gold of nature - emerging as its poetry, its perfume, its powerhouse, and its purity. Each bottle holds secret pathways to the most magical kingdom of all: Mother Earth. But as you browse the many varieties of essential oils available - losing yourself in fields of lavender, gardens of geranium roses, and plantations of peppermint - you may be wondering what sets organic essential oils apart from other essential oils. Is ‘organic’ just a word?
]]>
To unearth the benefits of organic essential oils, we are retracing the steps of their production to discover why ‘organic’ is so much more than a word. It is the essence of nature in its purest form.
So, pack your lemongrass organic essential oil (perfect for the outdoors!) and journey with us - we’re going back to the very beginning!
At its core, the word ‘organic’ captures a value system - a strong conviction and philosophy that diffuses itself into farming and lifestyle practices. It aims to stay true to nature’s principles and respect its purity. The organic practice is a holistic approach to natural farming, prioritising healthy soil quality, no contaminants, toxins, or harmful pesticides in crops, while also supporting sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices.
The journey of organic essential oils began here - with a pure vision and a commitment to nature, which follows through from start to finish - from soil to bottle - ensuring that the purity of nature is kept sacred.
Organic farming is committed to excellent soil quality - preserving its rich health properties without harmful additives. Herbs, fruit, vegetables, and other crops are cultivated without hazardous chemicals, toxins, pesticides, and other synthetic substances - keeping the earth happy and respecting its healing process. Organic essential oils are extracted from these well-nourished and much-loved plants, preserving their natural goodness.
Organic essential oils that are USDA approved are rigorously tested and monitored. They may possess all the sweetness and beauty of nature, but they also possess the integrity of science. The entire manufacturing process - from soil to bottle - is monitored to ensure that these oils meet the highest standards of organic health and quality. From soil to oil, they are tested to make sure that they are free of contaminants and maintain the purest organic requirements throughout the production process. You can rest assured that organic essential oils are reputable and safe, preserving the purest integrity.
After travelling the pathways of nature, organic essential oils end up in your home. Because the whole journey has been devoted to nature, all the health and therapeutic benefits Mother Earth has to offer are yours in a bottle. The intense purity of these oils unlocks sensational (literally!) aromatherapy and meditation powers.
Organic essential oils have a stronger and purer aroma - creating a space for you to enter the gardens and fields where they were originally produced. Since they have a lower residue of toxins and other chemical additives, they have a greater proportion of their natural active ingredient - making them healthier and more effective.

]]>You’ve just spent an hour in the shop, smelling the calming, energising and magical aromas of hundreds of essential oils, and you’ve finally narrowed it down to your top 3, when the shop assistant interrupts your sensory experience: ‘Which carrier oil would you like to go with those?’ At this point, you think: ‘The wonderful world of oils produced by nature is overwhelming enough - now I have to choose from an array of carrier oils!?
]]>Don’t panic! (Add some German Chamomile Oil to your basket).
Just breathe! (Add a bottle of Clary Sage Oil to your basket).
We know you don’t have another hour, so just ‘take 5’ and read our breakdown of carrier oils. You’ll soon have all the know-how to ensure that Nature’s droplets work perfectly for you.
Unlike essential oils - which are distilled from the aromatic leaves, bark, and roots of plants - carrier oils (also known as base oils) are derived from the fatty portion of a plant - usually the seeds, kernels or nuts. The method of production is either through distilling or cold pressing. Carrier oils are also unscented, or very lightly scented, and will not interfere with an essential oil’s therapeutic properties.
Due to the potency and concentration of essential oils, carrier oils are their gentle sidekick, diluting the essential oils for any topical applications (skin creams or massage oils). They are the unsung heroes in the world of aromatherapy, simply ‘carrying’ the essential oil to your skin, thereby mitigating any side effects or skin irritations. (Carrier oils are not required for diffusers).
With around 50 carrier oils on the market, how do you know which one to choose? Several general factors play a role in the selection of carrier oils, but due to the wonderful versatility of these base oils, the final decision often comes down to preference and budget.
Some general guidelines:
#1. Consider the quality - you should only buy carrier oils that are cold-pressed, 100% pure, and additive/preservative-free. Buying organic oils gives you peace of mind that there are no pesticide residues. Organic carrier oils also undergo less processing than non-organic oils and are likely to have a higher omega, mineral and vitamin content.
#2. Consider the type of application - a massage oil, bath oil, body lotion, facial serum, skin cream etc? Some carrier oils, like fractionated coconut oil, are absorbed more easily into the skin, whereas olive and grapeseed carrier oils are better used in massage or bath oils.
#3. Consider the type of skin - Jojoba carrier oil replicates sebum layers, making it ideal for oily skin; avocado and argan carrier oils are best suited for dry skin, healing the damaged upper layer of the epidermis; almond oil and jojoba oil are recommended for sensitive skin or mature skin; and sunflower, grapeseed or hemp seed oils are well suited for normal skin.
#4. Consider the color, aroma, viscosity and shelf life - some carrier oils are completely odorless while others have a mild nutty scent. Depending on the carrier oil, there will be color variations, with carrier oils also ranging in viscosity (choose between ‘thin,’ ‘medium,’ or ‘thick’, depending on the intended purpose). If tightly sealed and kept in a cool place, most carrier oils will have a shelf life of 1-2 years, with jojoba oil and fractionated coconut oil outlasting their peers with a shelf life of 5 years or more.
At Sanctus Essence we know that the world of carrier oils can be just as confusing as the world of essential oils, but we have made life a simpler by stocking our top 10 favorite and most versatile carrier oils to complement your essential oils repertoire: Almond, Argan, Avocado, Fractionated Coconut, Grapeseed, Hempseed, Jojoba, Olive, Sunflower and Tamanu.
All our essential and carrier oils are USDA certified organic and we consult with a qualified and certified Aromatherapist to ensure that any information accompanying our products is honest and accurate.
